SANTA MONICA CONSERVANCY PRESENTSSANTA MONICA LANDSCAPES - A GARDEN TOUR.Sunday, May 1st, 1 – 5 p.m.
Sponsored by: Merrihew's Sunset Gardens
The Santa Monica Conservancy will host its second Landscapes of Santa Monica tour. This year’s tour includes 11 unique residential gardens, celebrating Santa Monica’s diverse neighborhoods and demonstrating landscape’s importance to the urban streetscape.
Visitors will find inspiration from this rich variety of landscape environments, including several gardens which focus on water conservation. Highlights include sustainable native plants and drought-tolerant exotics; outdoor rooms, pathways, and creative adornments; a 90-year-old landmarked Eucalyptus tree; gardens by well-known Santa Monica landscape designers; and a California native plant sale sponsored by the Theodore Payne Foundation.
Homeowners and docents will provide information on the history and features of each garden. At some sites, the landscape architect/designer will be available to answer questions. A self-guided tour brochure will enable visitors to explore the sites in the sequence of their choice. Refreshments will be provided at a few locations.
Tickets and memberships can be ordered online at www.smconservancy.org or by phoning 310-496-3146. Tickets are $35 for the public; $25 for Santa Monica Conservancy members. Non-members may purchase discounted memberships, allowing them to buy tickets at member prices. Tickets will be sold on the day of the tour (cash or checks only) though advance purchase is recommended. Pick up tickets and brochures at a check-in table in the parking lot of the Department of Motor Vehicles, 2235 Colorado Ave (at Cloverfield Blvd.), Santa Monica 90404.
